Monday Night Mario Outburst

I can be a particularly lazy fellow. Although unmotivated may be a more apt description. That said, this post should have been written Monday night, but here we are. Wednesday morning. But this post is about Monday night. And about Mario. And perhaps a little Luigi.

I had plans for Monday night. Intentions. Yard work. Weed pulling. Watering. But first we had to hit the store for weekly groceries. That trip changed everything.

We stopped by the beer aisle. A common occurrence. Misty, my partner and Indian companion*, asked if we wanted beer. I asked, "for what?" A stupid question. Misty said she wants to play more Mario**. I smiled. Sweet, sweet excuses for procrastination.

Here's what we picked up. Pyramid Outburst Imperial IPA. I should say I'm not a big fan of pyramid brewing. I've never really been impressed by what they put out. Not to say I'm impressed by Outburst. I just think it's the only pyramid brew I've had that's worth a damn. It's okay. It tastes pretty good. A bit boozy, holding strong at 8.5 abv, but lacks that certain something that balances out the alcohol content. It still tastes like an imperial IPA, though, if still only a mediocre one.

But the real appeal is the price tag, and I'm probably going easy on Outburst because of it. It's under three bucks for a 22 oz bottle***, which makes Outburst just about the best you can do, especially with such high ABV, for that price range. You really can't do much better than this for this cheap. You can find stronger for cheaper, sure, and go with something that's got the words "High gravity" written in big lettering all across the can****, but you'd be sacrificing flavor. And not just a little. All of it. Outburst, while garnering bonus points for price point, still tastes like a craft beer.

And it pairs well with procrastination. And with dodging lava flows and cannon balls. Yeah, that's right, we're on the last stage headed towards defeating Kupa. Because we're awesome.

Although it's unclear whether the Outburst sped up or slowed our progress. Either way, it made dying so many times a little more tolerable, and it's extremely funny to shout expletives while playing a kid's game. And I stand by that.

Let me know if I start too many sentences with the word, "and," won't you please?

Next time, folks*****.

*It should by known that Misty has an Apache heritage, and doesn't mind at all when I refer to her as my Indian companion. I don't think.

**We've been playing the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which is pretty damn fun. It really captures the spirit of the classic mario games from the NES era.

***Or at least it was at the time we purchased it from the Yoke's Grocery Store down the street. It could have been on sale, and if so, I have no idea what the full retail price is on this bad boy.

****This just means they're advertising alcohol content over anything else.

*****You've probably noticed by now I'm dropping the classic tag line, "Tap that glass," and am pursuing others. Please send your suggestions to my twitter, @spokanebeerblog. Thank you kindly. Now tap that glass.
